Ketogenic Diet - Cancer

Ketogenic Diet

Studies have shown that sugar is directly related to cancer.  We know that sugar consumption has skyrocketed over the past 30 years.  The question is there a direct correlation between increased sugar in our diets and cancer rates.

The ketogenic diet suggests eliminating sugar particularly high fructose corn syrup and simple carbohydrates.  When we remove sugars and carbs that are converted to sugar, we are able to starve the cancer cells that feed on sugar.

Healthy cells that use glucose have the ability to switch to ketone bodies for fuel, this in essence starves and ultimately kills the cancer cells.

We know sugar has many detrimental health effects including obesity and diabetes.  Look to eliminate sugar, high fructose syrup, and those simple carbohydrates.  Soda, fruit juices, and other sweetened drinks are really just pure sugar.

To improve your health looks for easy ways to cut back on sugar and those simple carbs, they may be key to saving our lives.

Food is Medicine - Body Heal Thyself

The Body's Ability to Heal Itself

Food is medicine.  Many prescription drugs are based on plants and herbs.  There are countless stories or people curing ailments and chronic diseases through nutrition.

Many times we are so quick to ask the doctor for a pill to cure what ails us, but when we have a little patience and change our eating habits we can avoid the harsh side affects of drugs and let our bodies work their magic.

With over 60,000 miles of veins, arteries, and capillaries in the human body, enough to circle the earth two times, the body is a modern miracle.  When we fill our human "Ferraris" with processed food, sugar, and salt we clog the engine and the body begins to break down.

Changes in our nutrition are hard for many people, 80% of food on supermarket shelves is processed. Start with simple changes such as eliminating all sodas, try to eat some more fruit and vegetables, drink lemon or lime water everyday. Think green foods, try and eat the colors of the rainbow reds apples, strawberries, orange peppers, carrots, and oranges, purple blueberries and blackberries, yellow lemons and squash.

Try good nutrition first, give your body a chance to heal itself, it may be the

Best medicine you ever take.

Visualize - Cutting Down the Nets

I just saw a great story on Jim Valvano and the North Carolina State basketball team that went on an incredible winning streak to win the 1983 NCAA championship with one of the greatest wins over a heavily favored Houston team.

The NC State team followed up an air ball shot with seconds remaining to win in dramatic, unbelievable fashion.  One of the first things Coach Valvano did when he came to NC from Iona was tell the team that he had a vision that he was going to win a national championship and that this was the team to accomplish the goal.

He was so committed to the goal that he devoted an entire practice to cutting down the nets, which is a tradition for the winning team. Each player takes a turn to cut down a piece of the net with the coach cutting down the last thread.  The team would get out a step ladder, grab the scissors, and each take turns cutting a piece of the net.  And this did not just happen once, the team would regularly have practices were they would cut down the nets.  Who does that?

The first time the team did it felt goofy, funny, unreal, but as the team continued to practice cutting down the nets and celebrating their victory they began to believe it could actually happen. Perhaps subconsciously at first but the seed was planted.

Coach Valvano genius was in having the team share in his vision, in having the players share the same belief that he did. This NC State team could win a national championship.  This happened at the time when the ACC league had Michael Jordan at North Carolina and Ralph Sampson at Virginia, two of the greatest players in ACC history.  NC State wasn't even figured to be a contender for the league championship let alone the national championship.

Fast forward and after a mediocre regular season,  NC State must win the ACC league championship tournament just to make the NCAA tourney.  Entering the NCAA's as a six seed, the team goes on in dramatic fashion to beat Houston in one of the greatest college games in history to actually win the national championship.

What once was a dream had now become real.

And it all started with a simple vision of Cutting Down the Nets.

Nutrition - A Healthier Way

Sugar has found it's way into our food stream in a myriad of ways, and many times without our knowing.  The natural product grown from the good earth sugar cane is fine, but when we begin the processing we need to be mindful. We need to know the various names for sugar these days fructose, high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, added juices, and the list goes on.

The cheap man made ingredient HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP permeates all of our food products, from crackers, bread, beverages, to soups.  Now as the health dangers of HFCS have come to light the manufacturers simply rename the product and use the label Corn Syrup.

Our processed foods are laced with these products. Stick with a balanced diet concentrated in natural products and loaded with vegetables and fruits.  Read the label and if you can't pronounce the ingredient move on.  I know this is challenging for many of us that have been raised on these products, but our very health and well being is at stake.

We can use good nutrition to energize and heal ourselves with our food and eliminate the need for  prescription drugs. Try limiting the sugar and processed foods for a week, see how you feel. See how your mood and energy levels elevate.  See how you begin to lose the extra pounds.

To our health!
