America America!

 America the Beautiful

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

The first stanza of the beautiful poem by Katharine Lee Bates.  The melody belongs to Samuel Ward. We have much to be thankful for this Memorial Day Weekend where we celebrate our the tremendous sacrifices of our military.  Thank you all.

God Bless all who serve.

Joseph the Father

Joseph is the husband of Mary and father of Jesus.  The name Joseph means "God will add" which is fitting because Joseph is added to the lives of Mary and Jesus to guide them on their holy mission where life is made new again for all of us experience.

And now we our the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of God and of course we have our Jesus Lord Christ but Joseph the erstwhile servant Dad is left a little in the shadows.

Like many fathers Joseph is somewhat in the background he is the guide, the escort, the shepherd.

We fathers and dads today must realize our role to play even if it feels like we are in the background.  Like our heavenly Father, Son, and Holy Spirit we serve and shepherd the family.  We nurture, care, teach, protect, and serve the mother and children a joyous, glorious, life everlasting.

Fathers be steadfast and follow the path of our heavenly Father and Shepherd who has sent us his beloved Son Jesus the Son of both God and Man to show us the path.  When we stay close and follow his example, teachings, and Word our path is made smooth.

Let's be strong Fathers for all our families.

We do all in Christ which strengthen us.

Amen.

With Love,

Coach K

The Children

It all begins with the Family.  Our country and the world is based on the foundation of strong families.  If we look at the great nations throughout history they have this common theme of strong families, communities, country, and world.

But before all that.  We must begin in the home.  Mothers and Fathers stay together and raise your children.  Keep your relationship strong, their will be ups and downs but stay the course the destination is worth the journey.  For when you are older and look and the beautiful family and children you have helped create, with the Good Lord's blessing of course, you will sit in wonder and be amazed and what you have created.

The children are a blessing and a gift! And as Jesus reminds us, Suffer the Children which simply means to care, protect, love, and cherish them among all.

So ask God for help on your loving journey raising the family it is worth the sacrifice.  Our Single Mother Helen Ann Keel raised her four headstrong boys and shaped them into fine men.  Mom relied on the Blessed Mother and her faith in God to help her and us on the journey.  She lifted us up and great personal sacrifice and now we are paying it forward with our families.

To who much is given, much is expected.  And now we will carry her love forward that she has infused in us to Suffer the Children and lift them up all over the world in Jesus' name we pray.

Thank you Good Lord for providing a loving Mother that sacrificed her personal well being for that of her Lovebirds.

All our Love Mom.

Your Loving son Tommy

Crazy Helen

Helen better known as Mom was just like any other young woman about to marry the love of her life and live happily ever after. And as the saying goes, God had other plans. Mom is a Fairmount girl from Philadelphia, PA.  The child of Howard Keel and Helen Gallagher she is the 4th child of five in a family of two  sisters  Kitty the oldest and Judy the youngest, and her older brothers Frank and Joe. Dad was the second child of Frank and Loretta Kaufmann and has an older sister Frances and younger brothers Joe and Johnny.

She came from a working class family with Irish and German roots. She was the Princess of the family and and the favorite of Mom and Dad. She had dark black hair and striking blue eyes a resemblance to a young Elizabeth Taylor.  She spent Summers at the Wildwood beach in NJ and went to the local catholic Hallahan all girls school where she developed her deep faith and love of the Blessed Mother Virgin Mary.

She fell in love with Tommy, a friend of her brothers who played basketball together in the little gym at the start of Boat House row on Kelly Drive in Fairmount Park. Kelly Drive is one of the most picturesque drives in Philadelphia as the road winds along the Schuykill River through Fairmount Park.  The park is one of the largest urban parks in the country and Kelly Drive is named after Princess Grace Kelly's brother John B. Kelly Jr. who was a champion of the city and an Olympic rower.

Mom was a beautiful debutante and Tommy was a handsome athlete they fell in love were married in St. Francis' church and had wedding pictures in the park.  Mom wanted the nice house with the white picket fence while Dad just wanted to be one of the guys. The children came quickly in quick succession with Tommy, Frankie, Brian, better known as Irish twins, and the baby Chris to follow four years later.  The couple struggled financially bouncing around from apartments in Roxborough to a rental house in Chesnut Hill. Dad spent some time in the Army before being honorably discharged and landed a job as a package delivery driver for H&M in 1968.

The family was on the rise as Mom helped Dad secure a VA loan that helped them buy their first house in 1970 on East 5th Ave for $10,000 in Conshohocken. The home was a tidy 3br/1bth twin home with a small yard backing up to an alley that we shared with the neighbors. The blue collar Alan Wood steel working town was home of many churches, bars, and four Catholic school's St. Matthew's, St. Cosmas & Damien, St. Mary's, and St. Gertrude's in West Conshy.  Conshohocken means Pleasant Valley in the native Lenape Indian tongue. The town is located about ten miles outside of Philadelphia and also rests on the Schuykill river.

Conshohocken was indeed our Pleasant Valley with a town of ten thousand kids, parks, fields, and most of all right up the street The Fellowship House of Conshohocken. The Fel was a community center founded by it's first Director Albert C. Donofrio. The Fel was a place were the town children gathered to play basketball, kickball, volleyball, ping pong, board games, fooseball, and even chess.  The Fel was right up the block and we spent our childhood years with more time at the Fel than at home.

So as the Kaufmann family prospered including a new Volkswagon Squareback station wagon to go with the new house, things began to deteriorate with Mom and Dad's relationship.  He always wanted to go back to be with his friends in Fairmount while Mom wanted to keep away from the bar scene.  Mom wanted the finer things in life and Dad just wanted the simple life with friends and family in Fairmount. Dad most likely struggled with mental illness which resulted in his Honorable discharge from the Army after only six months.

The young growing family struggled financially as Dad left his job at H&M in 1972 where he had worked for four years and things started to deteriorate quickly.  Dad would spend more time back home in Fairmount and Mom would grow frustrated and angry that she was home with four kids under the age of eight.  Dad left and never returned in 1973 and I distinctly remember being the 9 years old. Frank would be 8, Brian 7, and Chris 3.  That was a seminal moment in all of our lives. We were Fatherless.  How do you leave four boys and your true love within a matter of nine years. Heck Dad has his own basketball team!

Children can bring great changes to any relationship and when you add in financial struggles, personality clashes, and ultimately one wanted to go in one direction while the other another, the relationship frays and the marriage ultimately ends.  Mom would ultimately make things work but it was a challenge for all of us after Dad left. She is our rock and salvation her unwavering faith and commitment to God and the Blessed Virgin Mother would see her and her children survive the challenge.  Mom became a Princess Warrior and would do anything to educate, feed, and discipline her children to ensure they became upstanding young men.

But the most important choice she made was to STAY!

Mom faced the challenges beat back the failure and disappointment. She begged and borrowed to ensure we had an excellent Catholic school education.  She wanted us to be gentlemen and not hooligans she reminded us that we were Lace Curtain Irish not Shanty Irish which is a reference to wanting the best for her boys.  She was determined to keep us on the right track and would scream, yell, and fight us to ensure we stayed on the right path. Like any family we had our ups and downs but we were resilient kids and raising four wiley boys as a single working mother would take an emotional toll on Mom.

She struggled with her own issues at times like everyone raising children, but she perserved and we all prospered.  We were raised in the Faith and reflecting back on our time with Mom was that her unwavering faith and devotion was essential in helping her raise four loving boys that would go on to raise wonderful families of their own and all be good Fathers.

Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to walk away and the hardest choice is to stay.  For all you Fathers out there make the right choice and stay it is the best decision you will ever make for when you children are grown you will be humbled with gratitude that with the Good Lord's blessing you raised your children and created your Masterpiece.

God Bless!

The Divine You

Who is this God

that we barely know

Who brings us the rain,

the wind and the snow

He created the world

And gave us new life

And yet we persist

with the sin and the strife

God gave us the Word

To teach and to guide

Life is a blessing

taken in stride

The Lord forgives and

makes things right

With His wisdom He gives us

Power and might

Get to know Him

Our Father above

We are his children

Feel the Love

How can we praise Him

Learn to be still

Try and stay humble

To do His will

The Lord is merciful

Full of grace

Clear out the noise

And give Him some space

Jesus tells us that

Peace

is the way

Follow the Word

And try not to stray

Let us be Thankful

Lifting our voice

We have this day

Let us Rejoice

We are forgiven

We are part of the

Trine

Father, Son, Holy Spirit

Of the Blessed Divine

With God all things are possible.

God Bless!

Count Your Blessings

Sometimes we often get so caught up in our daily lives that we lose sight of the important things. We have our everyday challenges with the family, children, and job that we ask ourselves is this all there is to life an I just changing diapers, paying bills, putting out fires, and dealing with setbacks and heartache. We all experience these challenges it is part of the human condition and human experience, but we do have resources to help and guide us on our life journey.

We must begin with our source, God the Father and his Son Jesus, when we understand that we are part of the divine union with God we know that we have a partner that will help us and guide us on our journey. We can use the principles such as the Ten Commandments to help us build a strong foundation for a life well lived. One of the most important resources available to us is the guidance of the Holy Spirit it resides in each of us and is in essence part of our Divine DNA our God force that we can access and use at any time.  We can tap our Holy Spirits to help with everyday decisions, career planning, our health, our love life, whatever we require help is just a prayer or quiet moment of reflect away from getting the information you need.

Just like in any relationship Communication is the key.  We must have good communication to have a successful strong relationship.  We can ask for guidance, help, support at any time but we must ask and more importantly listen. Try starting every morning with a simple, "Good Morning God thank you for this day".  Jesus tell us how to pray in the Sermon On The Mount by reciting the Our Father,

Our Father Who Art in Heaven

Hallowed be Thy Name

Give Us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our trespasses (sins)

As we forgive those who trespass against us

Lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from evil.  Amen

This simple yet powerful and effective prayer keeps our direct line of communication open with God where we ask for His guidance and to bring us peace to overcome any challenge we may face. A simple prayer of gratitude throughout the day of just saying "Thank You God" for this moment this breath this wonderful dance called life.

When we see life as a gift instead of daily drudgery our attitude and beliefs can shift to focus on the incredible gifts we all have been given and the possibility to achieve wonderful things in our lives. When we simply focus and count are blessings we can accomplish miracles in our lives just as Jesus tells us,

"You can do all that I have done and more if you but believe"

And

"This is the day the Lord has made let us Rejoice and be Glad!"

God Bless,

The Chosen - Accessible Jesus

The hit show The Chosen written by Dallas Jenkins has brought the story of Jesus to millions of worldwide viewers. The series started as a Crowd-Funded endeavor soliciting the public to donate funds to launch the show. Actor Jonathan Roumie depicts an outstanding Jesus and while watching and enjoying the series, it dawned on me why the show is so popular and successful.  After years of religious schooling and training, the incredible story of Jesus is brought to life not in a scholarly or religious way but in a straightforward easy to understand manner.

Jesus, while being the Son of God, has to come to earth to share and teach the ways of God the Father and heaven. He chooses 12 apostles to help him spread his teachings and message. The word apostle is Greek meaning one who is sent out. The twelve were disciples or students of Jesus and were sent out as missionaries to spread the "Good News" teachings of Jesus.

The apostles were brothers Peter and Andrew, brother James and John, Andrew, Phillip, Thomas, Simon, Matthew, James, Bartholomew, Thaddeus, Judas and later Mathias. These common men were fishermen, political zealots, tax collectors, just plain everyday working men.  Jesus purposely chose these men instead of the rabbis and high priests, the wealthy, or scholars like Nicodemus of the day.  Perhaps Jesus knew their egos would not allow them to be good students and ultimately good teachers, or perhaps the message is that we are all welcome and exalted in the eyes of God even the least among us. Rabbis focused their attention of teaching those in the Jewish faith and were not interested in sharing their learning with Gentiles.  Jesus wanted to expand his audience and share his teachings with the entire world both Gentile and Jew. And of course this ruffled a few feathers in the Jewish leadership and hierarchy.

The show depicts Jesus as a humble leader among the everyday people but with a powerful message of how to live a good life and find everlasting peace and joy in communion with God and his spiritual teachings and principles.  The show is simply good entertainment but with an inspiring divine message of hope, faith, and love that is open and accessible to all of us to lead and live the God good life.

A good way to learn more about the teachings of Jesus is to focus on his actual words and what he says in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  The words are so pure and true that they can transform you and the course of your life in an instant.

Jesus is here for all of us now. He is accessible and alive today as we was over 2000 years ago spreading the good news. As as Jesus instructs us,

"You can do all that I have done and more if you but believe"

God Bless.

Coach K

Enough

 When the world practices Tao

         horses fertilize the fields.

When the world ignores Tao

        horses are bred for war.

There is no greater calamity than desire

             no greater curse than greed.

Know that enough is enough

           and you'll always have enough.

Jesus - I Am

  •  “I am the bread of life.” (John 6:35, 41, 48, 51) As bread sustains physical life, so Christ offers and sustains spiritual life.
  •  “I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12) To a world lost in darkness, Christ offers Himself as a guide.

  • “I am the door of the sheep.” (John 10:7,9) Jesus protects His followers as shepherds protect their flocks from predators.
  • “I am the resurrection and the life.” (John 11:25) Death is not the final word for those in Christ.
  • “I am the good shepherd.” (John 10:11, 14) Jesus is committed to caring and watching over those who are His.
  • “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6) Jesus is the source of all truth and knowledge about God.
  • “I am the true vine.” (John 15:1, 5) By attached ourselves to Christ, we enable His life to flow in and through us. Then we cannot help but bear fruit that will honor the Father.
  •  And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’

Arnold Palmer Golf

From the great Arnold Palmer a wonderful quote that sums up the game of golf perfectly,

"Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening - and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented."

Arnold was a fantastic golfer but more importantly he was a gentleman and a lover of mankind. He would always sign autographs for his fans known as Arnie's Army with a legible signature. He would respond to every letter.  He established Children's hospitals with his wife Winnie in Florida.

He was an excellent businessman and a dynamic personality that first brought golf to television. The more you give the more you receive.

Getting High

 All Natural

We see so many of us looking to get high from drugs, alcohol, and pills. Why is that when we know that while these may change the way we feel in the short term many of these products are unhealthy and do long term damage to our minds and bodies.

A simple 20 minute walk can release all the feel good chemicals we need while benefiting our sense of well being and boost our health and longevity.  When we perform exercise, especially outside in the fresh air and soft sunshine, our bodies release the feel good chemicals of serotonin, endorphins, dopamine, and oxytocin, For higher intensity workouts we release IGF-1 which has a variety of health benefits.  Fresh air and deep breathing can increase our oxygen levels and reduce our stress and cortisol levels. Soft sunshine, that does not burn the skin, provides essential vitamin D.

We have an innate ability to improve our mood, reduce stress, and improve our health and sense of well being.  Some simple lifestyle changes can provide a natural high that is everlasting and best of all free. When we sprinkle in a little spirituality we further enhance the benefits.

These natural chemicals can transform our lives and improve our outlook and optimism but we need to take the initiative. Our bodies have everything needed to improve our health all we need to do is harness those God given gifts. God Bless.

Time to get high on life.  You deserve the best!

Longevity

 Healthy Living

In a 2023 study by the Lancet, a leading medical journal, tracked a million participants to research the benefits of movement. The findings were astounding.
  • Simply moving 150 minutes per week or 2.5 hours, you can reduce your morality rate by 28%.
  • When we increase our movement to 750 minutes per week or 12.5 hours, you reduce your mortality rate by 42%.
By just simply moving, we can dramatically improve our health.  We are not talking about lifting weights, running, or other types of strenuous exercise to achieve these results.  Just simply moving increases our lifespan.

These days we spend most of our time indoors leading sedentary lifestyles, but by simply walking we can increase our overall health and quality of life. A step tracker does help incentivize you to keep moving and is a small investment in your health.

To your health!

Coach K

The Crowd

 Novak Djokovic

Tennis great Novak Djokovic had to retire from the 2025 Australian Open after sustaining a torn leg muscle in his dramatic victory over young phenom Carlos Alcatraz.  Novak was playing Alex Zverev in the semifinals when after losing in a closely contested first set 7-6 in a tiebreaker, he realized he couldn't continue and had to retire from the match.

Novak has won 24 majors over his long distinguished career. He has won the Australian Open a record 10 times! At age 37 he continues to defy time with advance to the semifinals of the year's first major.  After battling Zverev and his leg injury in the semifinal, Novak could not go on and retired from the match.  Upon learning that Novak could not continue, some of the crowd proceeded to boo the 10 time champion.

How does a crowd boo a 10 time champion that is 37 years old just winning a tough quarterfinal match and deciding to compete despite his injury. To be fair not everyone was booing but the crowd can make people do maddening things. While we are all a part of the crowd at times, we must remember to maintain our individuality and reason.

A great champion that has devoted his life to the game of tennis and has sacrificed and endured the highs and lows of a long distinguished career deserves our respect even admiration.

The crowd can make us do things we don't normally do but we can rise above all the noise and carry ourselves with class and dignity just like the great champions we are.

Gasoline Taxes

 Pennsylvania Gasoline Taxes

Pennsylvania has the second highest gasoline taxes in the USA at $0.57 per gallon second to only California. High gas taxes hurt working class families, lead to higher costs of goods and inflation for all Pennsylvanians.

The increased gas tax was instituted by one term Governor Tom Corbett in 2013. The average price of a gallon of gas in PA today is around $3.15 with $0.57 cents being a tax.  Just think of how a lower tax could benefit every day working families.  PA has slow growth economy and reducing the gas tax would help spur economic growth which would also increase government revenues.

The ironic part is that Pennsylvania is the second leading natural gas producer and top 3 coal producer in the country. Why does the one of the leading energy producing states have one of the highest gasoline taxes that unfairly hurts its citizens.

The high gas tax hurts the economically challenged the most. Time to repeal the high PA gasoline tax and let the people keep their hard earned money.

Every Day Miracles

 Miracles Abound

We are surrounded by miracles everyday we have just lost sight of these daily occurrences.  Think about what happens to us and we live our lives.  We wake up from a restorative dream like sleep and begin the day with a breath.  A simply breath fills our lungs with the precise mix of Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Argon including other trace gases.  Think of how that breath provides the nutrients that fuel our blood, organs, brain, and body.  Remarkable.

Now let's move to Sunshine that is essential for life and provide all the food and nutrients we need to survive. The Earth provides the soil to grow the plants and crops we need to sustain life. Think of our incredible bodies despite some flaws our complex eyes enable us to see and witness the magnificent universe.  Our heart is an incredible muscle that pumps our blood throughout the body to provide essential nutrients to our organs, muscles, tissues, and cells.

Our brains are an amazing complex organ that surpasses any computer, regulating bodily functions, essential chemicals, and of course our ability to think, learn, and reason. We take for granted the amazing organism known as the human body.

We just touched on the miracles that occur daily in nature.  One such miracle that we experienced recently was the birth of a child.  A man and woman come together and posses everything needed to procreate and propagate human life. When we experience a human embryo growing inside the mother's womb that is born into the world, we can only humbled and awed by God's blessings that surround us.

The world will always have challenges, but don't let those circumstances overwhelm you or forget your divine nature and and the miracle that is You.

Tony

Tony started working in a manufacturing plant logging 12 hour rotating shifts from 6a-6pm or 6pm-6am.  He is a hard worker and wanted extra hours to provide for his growing family.  I would tell the guys that no matter who you work for you're always working and representing You Inc, your personal brand.

And as CEO of your brand you want to have a good reputation.  Hard worker, team player, problem solver, leader, good attitude.  We would talk about how the people you interact with on a daily basis may have a life changing opportunity because everyone is on the lookout for talent and good people.

So after a few years of logging 12 hour shift and 70 hour work weeks in the cold plant, Tony was offered a management opportunity with one of the fastest growing private companies in the U.S.  After being there for less than six months, he just reached out and said that he was promoted to a supervisor position.

Tony went from a job to a life changing career that offers economic security for him and his family in a few short years. The power of your mindset and attitude is so important and it can propel you to places you never dreamed of, it can also have a negative or deleterious impact of your success and achievement. We all have challenges and difficult circumstances to deal with at times but they are just stepping stones to better opportunities.  And no matter how talented you may be remember that no one wants to work or be associated with a jerk.

If the situation you're in today is not ideal, we can always make a change and look for other opportunities. But you can also simply adjust your attitude and watch your whole world change immediately.  As Dr. Wayne Dyer says, "when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."

With God all things are possible.

With Love,

Coach K
